Nestled in the sandhills north and east of Merriman, Nebraska, lies the headquarters of the historical Bowring Ranch. Arthur Bowring homesteaded here in 1894. After the death of his widow, Eva Kelly Bowring in 1985, the ranch was donated to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission to remain a working ranch. It became a state historical park dedicated to preserving the history of the cattle industry in Nebraska, especially in the Sandhills region of Cherry county. Artifacts and memorabilia from the lives of Arthur and Eve Bowring as well as displays from the cattle industry may be seen at the Visitor’s Center. Diane Burress-Park Superintendent III. |
